The Gipper Award is our organization’s highest honor and is given yearly to a male and female Republican under age 40 who displays an outstanding effort in promoting New Hampshire’s youth in the political process and the Republican cause. This year’s recipients are former State Representative and NHYR Southern Regional Vice Chairman Shaun Doherty and former State Representative and 2014 Republican Congressional nominee Marilinda Garcia.
Carly Fiorina is a leader in the business world, best-selling author and highly sought after speaker. Florina is the former Chairman and CEO of Hewlett-Packard and was the Republican nominee for United States Senate seat in California in 2010. Since her Senate campaign, Florina has traveled the country speaking on her experience in business and politics. She is the Chairman of Unlocking Potential, a project with the goal of engaging conservative women in the political process.

The New Hampshire Young Republicans are proud to announce that they will present their annual Gipper Award to an outstanding male and female Young Republican. This year’s recipients will be Shaun Doherty and Marilinda Garcia. The Gipper Award is the organization’s highest honor and is given yearly to a male and female Republican under age 40 who displays an outstanding effort in promoting New Hampshire’s youth in the political process and the Republican cause. The award will be presented at a reception in March by a prominent conservative guest speaker. Details of the event will be announced in the coming days.
Shaun Doherty is a former two-term State Representative from Pelham and currently serves as the NHYR’s Southern Regional Vice Chairman. For over a decade, Doherty has worked on campaigns here in New Hampshire and advanced the cause of young Republicans in those efforts. In 2004, Doherty was the youngest Town Chairman in the nation for President Bush’s reelection campaign. In 2005 and 2007, he worked on the successful campaigns of Frank Guinta for Mayor of Manchester. During the 2008 Presidential Primary, Doherty served as the Youth Chairman of John McCain’s campaign. In 2008 at age 20, Doherty was elected State Representative and served both terms on the Election Law Committee. Doherty worked as the Communications Director of the New Hampshire Republican Leadership Institute, a steering committee member of Mitt Romney’s 2012 Presidential campaign, and as communications and social media adviser to Andrew Hemingway’s 2014 campaign for Governor. Doherty is a 2010 graduate of Rivier University with a B.A. in Communications.
Marilinda Garcia is a former four-term State Representative from Salem and 2014 Republican Congressional Nominee. Elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives in 2006 at age 23, Garcia served as a member of the Finance Committee and was a Co-Chairman of the House Republican Alliance. She attended Tufts University and the New England Conservatory of Music, earning joint bachelor’s degrees in 2006. After graduating, Garcia joined Phillips Exeter Academy as adjunct faculty and served as a court appointed special advocate for abused and neglected children. She graduated from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government with a Masters degree in Public Policy in 2010. Garcia embarked on a run for Congress in New Hampshire’s Second District in 2014 and became the Republican nominee. Her campaign helped bring numerous young conservative activists into the party and demonstrated the commitment of Young Republican talent in our state.

New Hampshire Young Republicans National Committeewoman Dr. Dana Gordon was named “Woman of the Year” at the national Young Republican’s annual meeting in Washington, DC.
New Hampshire Young Republican Chair Molly Sanborn said “I am delighted to have a member of our board recognized on a national stage for her hard work and dedication to the party. I congratulate Dana and look forward to working with her and our board members on the path to victory this November.”
Dr. Gordon said “I am absolutely humbled to be named the Young Republican National Federation’s Woman of the Year! Words cannot express how touched I am to receive this incredible honor. Love of God, country, and family have always been my motivating factors in life, and I will use this award as a springboard to continue fighting for these issues in New Hampshire, our great nation, and in my political endeavors abroad.”
Dr. Dana Gordon is a graduate of Vanderbilt University with a PhD in Clinical Psychology. Previously she served as the Young Republican National Committeewoman for both Florida and Georgia. Dr. Gordon serves as the YRNF Delegate to the European Young Conservatives Leadership Conference at Cambridge University, a center-right organization focusing on advancing a conservative political philosophy worldwide. She is the African Affairs Committee Chairman for the YRNF and has been active in grassroots campaigns in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Arizona, Louisiana, and Texas. Dr. Gordon is currently a Principal Clinical Research Associate specializing in medical drug research and biomedical device technology.
Today the New Hampshire Young Republicans hosted their 5th Annual Lobster Bake at Brown’s Lobster Pound in Seabrook. Attendees at the event participated in a straw poll that included the 2016 GOP Presidential Primary and the 2014 GOP race for Governor, US Senator, and both Congressional districts.
